‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Begins Pre-Production in Atlanta

It won’t be released until 2017, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is beginning pre-production in Atlanta. Director James Gunn has been keeping fans updated on the sequel through social media and various interviews. While actual filming isn’t scheduled to get underway until February 2016, Gunn posted to Facebook yesterday saying that he was headed out today to begin the ten month production (including pre-production) on the film.

During pre-production, Gunn along with several crew members will be building the giant sets that will serve as the backdrop for the new film. And with production nearing, fans may be expecting casting news for new characters that Gunn has previously teased. Don’t get too excited just yet, Gunn noted in a comment on Facebook that December and January would still be too early to reveal new characters or plot details.

Once Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wraps next year, Thor 3 will move into the same space at the Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. Both Ant-Man and 2016’s Captain America: Civil War also filmed at the studios. If it seems like Atlanta is becoming the new home of Marvel, don’t expect that to change any time soon. Marvel signed a five year deal with Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios in 2014.
