Rafael de la Fuente Confirms ‘Empire’ Return
If you’re an Empire fan (like a big chunk of the country) then you were probably a little saddened, but not too surprised, when Jamal Lyon’s (Jussie Smollett) rise to fame included dropping his sweet (and super hot) boyfriend Michael (Rafael de la Fuente).
It seems like Michael and Jamal aren’t quite out of each other’s systems yet, however, de la Fuente has confirmed his character’s return to the show in its upcoming season. “I can’t wait for the audience to see Jamal and Michael’s new dynamic,” he told TVLine during Empire‘s red-carpet premiere event in New York City this weekend. “I think they’re going to like it.”
Fans last saw Michael when the pair split after Jamal’s refusal to come out about his sexuality and their relationship, only to come out shortly after the breakup. The actor also told TV Line that while Michael is proud of Jamal for finally making that step, “a part of him is disappointed that he decided to do that after breaking up with Michael. It stings a little bit.”
The actor also teased the pair’s relationship during his arc with the words “Sexy,” “unexpected” and “real love.” We can’t wait to see these crazy kids get back together!
The drama of Empire returns to Fox Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 9/8c.
