Disney Reportedly Eyeing Emily Blunt for Role of Mary Poppins

News of a Mary Poppins sequel just hit the web this week, but that isn’t stopping the casting rumors from running rampant already.

The first name to be dropped as a possibility to take on the role of the magical nanny is Emily Blunt. Den of Geek was the first to report the news, with a source telling them that “Emily Blunt is on Disney’s radar for the movie, and that she may even be the frontrunner for the role.”

If the rumor is true, it doesn’t come as too big of a surprise. The new Mary Poppins film will be helmed by Disney’s Into the Woods team, the musical in which Blunt starred in last year.

Earler this week it was reported that, “the new film will take place in London 20 years after the first film and will take storylines from the P.L. Travers’ children books focusing on the magical nanny’s continued adventures with the Banks family.” The original Disney movie, now a classic, starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, was released in 1964.

The film is still in its development stages and no casting announcements have officially been made yet, so plenty could definitely change along the way, but do you think Emily would make a good Poppins? If not, who would you like to see take on the role?
