Whitey Bulger Is No Fan of Johnny Depp’s ‘Black Mass’ Portrayal

Black Mass premieres in theaters this weekend and while the reviews are still rolling in, Depp can forget about one person giving him accolades on his portrayal of notorious crime boss Whitey Bulger…and that’s notorious crime boss Whitey Bulger.

The now 86-year-old criminal, who is currently serving two life sentences after being apprehended in 2011 after 16 years on the run, is holding nothing back concerning his thoughts on Hollywood’s take on his life.

“Johnny Depp might as well have been playing the Mad Hatter all over again as far as James Bulger is concerned,” Bulger’s defense attorney Hank Brennan told People magazine. “Hollywood greed is behind the rush to portray my client, and the movie missed the real scourge created in my client’s case, the real menace to Boston during that time and in other mob cases around the country — the federal government’s complicity in each and every one of those murders with the top echelon informant program.”

Bulger even refused to meet or even correspond with Depp during shooting, and according to Brennan, has no plans to watch the film, even if the opportunity ever becomes available to him.
