E! has released a first look at the upcoming season of The Royals, which includes new footage of what fans can expect from the wild ride.
The show’s sophomore season picks up with the monarchy under the rule of King Cyrus (Jake Maskall) who seems to be enjoying the title he killed for. “Last year I was the spare heir. Brother to the King. Now I can say I am the king,” Maskall declares in the first look.
Elizabeth Hurley, who plays the devious Queen Helena, feels that while the new season does feel different, the fun is just beginning. “This season feel a little bit different to season one because I really feel that our story’s really kicking off now.”
At the end of the day, all the fashion, scandal and drama aside, creator Mark Schwahn wants fans to remember that, at its core, the show is really about family. “It’s essentially these stories are just stories about people. They just happen to have this throne and this power and this monarchy at the center of this family but at the end of the day they’re just human stories.
