Selena Gomez Opens Up About Lupus Diagnosis, Addresses Rehab Rumors
Selena Gomez clearing up any speculation surrounding her brief stint in rehab back in 2014 and the real reason for her stay may surprise you.
In a new Billboard interview, the star bravely revealed that she checked herself into the Meadows last year to privately deal with her lupus diagnosis, not because of any Bieber issues or addiction problems like it was so widely speculated.
“I was diagnosed with [autoimmune disease] lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy,” she told the mag. “That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke.”
Gomez was simply trying to maintain her health, but when she got wind of the rumors, she chose to not respond, instead suffering in silence.
“I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes,’ ” she went on to say. “But I was angry I even felt the need to say that. It’s awful walking into a restaurant and having the whole room look at you, knowing what they’re saying. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
