ABC Family has given a pilot order to the TV adaptation of Famous in Love, starring Bella Thorne, which will be executive produced by Pretty Little Liars boss I. Marlene King.
The project’s development began in earlier this year and yesterday the network announced their decision to move forward with production of a full pilot.
The show, based on Rebecca Serle’s novel, stars Thorne as Paige, an ordinary college student who gets her big break after auditioning for the starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster. She must now navigate her new star-studded life and undeniable chemistry with her two co-leads while uncovering the truth about what happened to a famous missing pop star.
“We could not be more excited to extend our relationship with hitmaker I. Marlene King,” said Karey Burke, exec vp programming and development at ABC Family. “With Famous in Love, Marlene takes us behind the scenes of young Hollywood to tell a sexy, soapy tale about what it’s like to make a movie — and fall in love — in L.A. We are also thrilled to welcome the talented Bella Thorne to our network and cannot wait to get started on our next can’t-miss show.”
Thorne is not only the star of the new pilot, but a fan of the books as well—a quote from the actress is featured on the book’s cover. “Rebecca Serle completely captured what it’s like to be a part of Young Hollywood,” Thorne said. “I absolutely loved Famous In Love. A must-read for anyone curious about life and love behind the scenes.”
ABC Family becomes FreeForm in January and Famous In Love will join the growing list of programming targeting the group that the network calls “Becomers”.
