‘The Walking Dead’ Star Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o Head to Broadway with ‘Eclipsed’

The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira and Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o are headed to Broadway thanks to the success of their play Eclipsed.

The play, penned by Gurira and starring Nyong’o, is set against the backdrop of the Liberian Civil War and follows the captive wives of a rebel officer as they join together and form a community…that is until a new girl shows up and potentially destroys everything.

“I am thrilled beyond words that we are able to bring this magnificent and powerful play to Broadway after its sold-out performance at the Public Theater and to provide another opportunity for everyone to experience and witness these incredible performances,” lead producer Stephen Byrd said of the play’s upcoming move.

Previews for Eclipsed began at The Public Theater on September 29th, while the official opening took place last Wednesday, October 14 at The Public Theater in New York. It is scheduled to run through November 29th and will then move to Broadway in the spring of 2016.

Broadway previews of the play will begin Feb. 23rd, with the official Broadway opening night taking place March 6th at the Shubert Organization’s Golden Theatre.
