‘The Walking Dead’ Showrunner Scott Gimple Addresses Last Night’s Shocking Ending

SPOILER ALERT! IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP ON THE LATEST EPISODE OF THE WALKING DEAD CLICK AWAY!

We’re here still trying to recover from last night’s stressful and unexpected episode, which left Michonne (Danai Gurira) and her group trapped in a pet store and surrounded by a herd, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) trapped in an RV and surrounded by a herd, and the shocking possible death of fan-favorite and long-time survivor Glenn (Steven Yeun).

Glenn and Nicholas (Michael Traynor) were surrounded by walkers and trapped on top of a dumpster, when Nick decided to take his own life, shooting himself in the head and taking Glenn down into the pile of walkers with him. We see Glenn (maybe) being torn apart, but the angle makes it unclear as to who was actually being eaten, leaving Glenn’s fate a mystery.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple gave a statement about Glenn’s supposed death on Sunday’s Talking Dead saying, “Dear fans of The Walking Dead, this is a hard story to tell and when we were planning to tell we knew our friends at the Talking Dead would be talking to you about it and knowing you’d all be talking, and feeling and commiserating, I knew we should say something about it lest our silence say something we didn’t mean to say or not say.

“So I’ll say this: In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts of Glenn again, either in flashback or in the current story to help complete the story.”

We’re pretty sure this means Glenn will survive, but what we don’t know is how he manages to get himself out of this one.

There’s also this interesting little piece of info that our friend and fellow TWD fan tweeted out:

Let us know what you think about Glenn’s fate (and everyone else’s) in the comments below!

  1. Don’t know how you got he survived out of that. The show will lose all creditibility if they bring him back alive too.

  2. If he were dead it would have been “He’s dead. Sorry Guys,” like it always is. Instead we get this long roundabout explanation.

Let’s just see what ends up happening …and find out why he’s in the picture above with a new , yet-to-be-introduced character…and see why he wasn’t included in Talking Dead’s ‘In Memoriam’ segment????

  3. I disagree that Glenn is alive based on Gimple’s statement.
Glenn is either going to be a walker (version of him), he just dead and Maggie’s pregnant (version of him), or only his remains or his hand will indenting him.
The photo does create hope but I also think it’s an intentional spoiler meant for deception. Gimple and Kirkman have both admitted to creating alternate storylines. Maybe this is one of them.

  4. I would hope that it is all just a freaky dream from Nicholas but if it isn’t …it,s the worst unsatisfying death of a major character I have ever seen. Certainly they’ve handled the death of others with much more honor and grace, though filled with horrific scenes. This death left you with no closer. The fact that the talking dead did not memorialize the character left it all to cold. However if it is not a dream or illusion there is little hope of Glenn’s survival from his position on the ground. The zombies are not going to care about whether they are eating the guy on top first or not. A wild pack,…of anything doesn’t worry about what part they get as long as it’s some part.
His view from his stand on the dumpster showed two obvious escapes, using the fence to climb on the roof, the easiest route, or using it to escape to the woods, a little trickier since it means going over the bobbed wire.
With all that in mind, if Glenn is dead it was the worst ever and worthy only of rethinking my fan rating. My biggest concern is if the writers and powers that be believe that ‘no one is safe’ and that ‘everyone dies’ then taking the easy way out is the only sane choice. Certainly they love to slash all hopes. Strangely hope is the only driving force behind surviving most tragedies. Personally if you want a world so bleak as to be void of heroes and hope take your nose out of the comic books and watch the news for a minute.
