ABC Family Holding Open Auditions to Find Young Nicki Minaj for New Series
The search is on for new talent to play young Nicki Minaj in ABC Family’s upcoming semi-biographical comedy series about the star’s life.
The Wrap broke the news, reporting that the network is holding open casting calls to find a girl between the ages of 11-13 to play the younger version of the rapper.
The half-hour series, which will shoot in Minaj’s hometown of Queens, New York this winter, is based on the star and her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the early 1990’s. It will focus on her growing up in Queens with her vibrant family and the personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom.
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said the star in a statement when the news of her series being picked up broke. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
Minaj will executive produce the half-hour comedy series based on her family’s immigration from Trinidad to the U.S. in the early 1990s.
If you’d like to access the script and upload audition video, just download the free Disney Applause app, select “ABC Family’s Online Open Call” and follow the instructions. Disney Applause is available from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The deadline for materials is Sunday, Nov. 15th.
