Charlie Sheen Reveals He’s HIV Positive on ‘Today’

Charlie Sheen made his “revealing personal announcement” on Today this morning, confirming rumors that he’s HIV positive.

“I’m here to admit that I am, in fact, HIV positive,” Sheen told Lauer during their sit down. The actor felt that it was time to come forward about his status because of all of the rumors that have been swirling in recent weeks.

“I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, that threaten the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth,” he said.

Sheen said that he contracted the virus about 4 years ago and continues to take medication to manage it daily. His personal physician, Dr. Robert Huizenga, was on hand to confirm “Charlie does not have AIDS.”

The actor also denied reports that he knowingly or unknowingly transmitted the virus to others, saying that the notion is “impossible.”

“I have a responsibility now to better myself and to help a lot of other people and hopefully with what we’re doing today others will come forward and say, thanks Charlie,” Sheen said.
