Crowe/DiCaprio Co-Star Fears Exile From Iran

The Iranian actress who appears in RUSSELL CROWE and LEONARDO
DiCAPRIO’s new movie BODY OF LIES is refusing to return to her homeland –
because she fears she will be exiled over her role in the film.

Golshifteh Farahani was detained by authorities in her homeland in August
(08) after making plans to visit Hollywood for a series of meetings with
directors and casting agents. They also confiscated her passport.

State news agency officials at IRNA claimed the 25-year-old did not obtain
the necessary permit from the ministry of culture and Islamic guidance in order
to appear in the U.S. movie.

According to the New York Daily News, Farahani has since had her passport
returned to her, although Islamic officials are continuing their investigation
into whether she broke the law by making the film without permission.

And she has been living in France with her husband since the incident,
uncertain if the Iranian government will seize her documents upon her return to
the country.

She tells the newspaper: “I’m on trial. I’m totally in love with Iran. I have
family there. But now, if they want to see me, they have to leave…

“I had a lot of problems because of this movie. (Iranian officials) took my
passport. The intelligence service interrogated me several times. In the end,
the judge said, ‘We have to see the movie and then decide what we’re going to
do with you.'”

Farahani – who plays DiCaprio’s love interest in the film – is the first
Iranian-based actress to appear in a Hollywood film since the 1979 Islamic
revolution.
