Tom Hardy is considering reuniting with Christopher Nolan for the third time to star in a new World War II drama about the Battle of Dunkirk.

The filmmaker has penned his own screenplay for Dunkirk, which will detail the 1940 evacuation of the northern French city by Allied forces.

He is allegedly seeking unknown actors to lead the cast, but has tapped Tom to join the ensemble, according to Variety.com. If the Mad Max: Fury Road star signs on, it will mark his third project with Christopher, who previously directed Tom in 2010’s Inception and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.

British acting veterans Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance are also in negotiations for the action thriller, which Christopher will produce for Warner Bros. with his longtime partner Emma Thomas.

“We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time,” Warner Bros. studio chief Greg Silverman writes in a statement. “Dunkirk is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen.”

Production is due to begin on location in May 2016, with Dunkirk slated for release in July 2017. We’ll keep you posted as more details surface!
