John Krasinski on His Wife, Stephen Merchant’s Tea, and More
John Krasinski has a taste for British things, thanks to his English wife Emily Blunt. While he isn’t fully signed up to foods like Marmite, a yeast-based spread, John is an avid tea drinker.
“I’ve really got into tea but I’m not full Brit level yet,” he laughed to Britain’s Metro newspaper. “I’ll never forget Stephen Merchant gave me my first container of Fortnum and Mason’s tea. That was a whole new experience. I’m a big coffee guy, for the caffeine. I never really believed tea had the same amount of caffeine. I was wrong. Because after a pot of that I was about to jump off the roof. It was crazy.”
As well as influencing his diet choices, Emily also served as an inspiration for John’s new movie 13 Hours. The military based drama is based on the real story of the aftermath following an attack on a US compound in Libya. John was required to bulk up for his role as ex-Navy Seal Jack Silva, and looked towards Emily for advice, as she got fit for movies Edge of Tomorrow and Sicario.
“My wife’s an inspiration every single day for a lot of reasons – on and off camera,” he gushed. “She got into shape first. I couldn’t believe how hard she was working and my wife works harder than anybody. So that was actually great inspiration to me. Because she did such a great job, I couldn’t let her down.”
In addition to helping get John ripped, 13 Hours also holds sentimental meaning for the 36-year-old.
“I won’t dance around the fact that it was something different for me,” he said of shedding his nice guy image. “But I come from a huge military family with aunts and uncles and cousins who have served or are serving, so I have always wanted to do a movie like this. One that honors what the real guys in this story actually went through.”
