Will There Be More ‘X-Files’ Episodes?

X-Files

Will there be more X-Files in our future? The miniseries comes to a close on Monday night with the final episode airing at 10pm EST on Fox, but that might not be the end for the series.

In a recent interview with Variety, David Madden, Fox’s president of entertainment, commented that the network would love to air more episodes.

“We are over the moon with the performance,” Madden said. “So far, the response has been really encouraging.”

Madden also confirmed that official talks haven’t started yet with series creator Chris Carter nor the cast, but he also says the series returning is a definite possibility. Carter has previously commented that he would definitely be interested in doing additional episodes as well, but that it would be Fox.

“Everyone has to get the word out there in order to get the ratings that will promote more episodes,” Carter said.

The X-Files has performed quite well, with the more than 50 million international for the episode, which held fairly steady for the following episodes. With a 7.8 rating in the 18-34 demographic, the series is just behind the mid-season premiere of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Would the cast be open to returning for more episodes? Lead actor David Duchovny has said in several interviews that he wouldn’t want to return for another 22-episode season, however he was committed to doing the six episodes. With other projects lined up for both Duchovny and co-star Gillian Anderson, there is concern that scheduling would be an issue for a potential second season.

The X-Files miniseries finale airs Monday night at 10pm EST on Fox. Will you be watching?
