Jason Momoa Talks ‘Aquaman’

Jason Momoa has had his fair share of physically demanding roles, having portrayed warrior leader Khal Drogo in HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, but in addition to acting, he’s been given the opportunity to direct commercials for clothing brand Carhartt in recent years.

And when he’s on set filming the Carhartt adverts, Momoa makes it a point to not just sit behind the camera – he gets in the trenches with the actors by taking actions like running alongside stuntmen without a coat on in the dead of winter.

“I love getting in with real people and getting them and capturing them in their real lifestyles,” he explained to ET Online of his directing style. “They’re looking at me, going like, ‘Dude, I love you! You’re Drogo!’ And it’s nothing but me. I get to get down there and be with them and inspire them.

“I love when I’m in the s**t and I’m freezing my a** off and the director takes his coat off. I want to feel what my actors are going through, too…If you build a beautiful net to catch people, you can trust the director and really leap. That’s a great feeling to have as an actor. So, what I try to do as a director is be a general.”

Momoa is currently preparing to portray classic DC Comics character Aquaman in two pictures – eponymous flick Aquaman, due out in 2018, and The Justice League Part One, which reaches theaters a year ahead in 2017.

And he is looking forward to the action sequences in the forthcoming films, noting audiences are likely to be surprised by how Aquaman is depicted.

“It’s just something that hasn’t been explored before,” he revealed before teasing fight scenes. “I like fighting. So, I’m looking forward to being a superhero and just fighting,” he teases. “There’s some good battles.”
