NBC Greenlights ‘The Blacklist’ Spinoff
If you’re a fan of the The Blacklist, especially the last couple of episodes, this will come as good news to you. In the last two episodes we saw Famke Janssen (X-Men) in a great guest role as a sort of rival of Reddington that has to team of with Reddington to complete a complex mission. The episodes focused heavily on her intricate network of mercenaries and the complexity of her organization.
So, it should come as no shock that NBC has greenlit the spinoff called The Blacklist: Redemption. Thursday’s episode was actually a backdoor pilot for the spinoff from of the original series.
The show will follow undercover agent Tom Keen, who teams up with Susan “Scottie” Hargrave (Famke Janssen), “the brilliant and cunning chief of Grey Matters, a covert mercenary organization that solves problems governments don’t dare touch.”
In the episode that aired on Thursday, Tom found out that Scottie is his biological mother. They will be forced on the spinoff show to work in “a dangerous world of deadly criminals”. Meanwhile, Tom will go on a mission to find out about his past. The series will also star Ryan Eggold, Edi Gathegi and Tawny Cypress. The Blacklist‘s Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath will write and executive produce with John Fox and John Davis.
While this certainly does sound interesting, it also raises issues about the original Blacklist. With the recent death of Elizabeth Keen (supposedly) and now exit of Tom Keen one wonders where the future of the show will head. We will keep you posted as we learn more.
