Clooney Interested In ‘Tom Clancy’ Role

George Clooney has apparently expressed interest in playing Jack Ryan if Paramount attempts to continue the Tom Clancy series. With the Ocean’s franchise now seemingly over, and Clooney pushing 50, he apparently wants to be part of a stable commercial franchise.

Actors like Ryan Gosling, Aaron Eckhart, James Franco, and even Harrison Ford have been linked to the Jack Ryan role over the past few years.

The last report on another Jack Ryan film came in December when the Hollywood Reporter claimed that the next film would be an origin-story about Ryan and not anything derived from a Clancy novel. Obviously casting Clooney in the role of Ryan would seem to run counter to an origin story.

Ryan has previously been played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck.

We’ll see what happens.

  1. Origin to me means beginning. George can not play a younger Jack. It would be as weird as Affleck playing an older then Harrison Ford character. It just did not work.

It was the objection I had to Ben playing Jack.

Now if only we could exchange George and Ben, then Ben could have played a younger Jack and George would have been prefect as the current Jack.

And you need Tom Clancy to write a good Jack Ryan story. Tom’s style need to be projected on the screen otherwise they are destroying Jack Ryan.

  2. Affleck was playing a young Jack Ryan, as they attempted to “reboot” the franchise. Let’s just ignore that one. I’d love to see Clooney take on the role. He’s a class act and easy on the eyes.
