Weekend Box Office: ‘Finding Dory’ Makes Big Splash at #1

Finding Dory

Finding Dory made a big splash at the box office this weekend! The Finding Nemo sequel debuted with $136.2 million and features the voices of Ellen DeGeneres, Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Diane Keaton, and Albert Brooks. It is officially the second largest June opening of all time – just behind last year’s Jurassic World.

In case you’re wondering how that compares to Finding Nemo, which premiered 13 years ago, the film made $70.2 million opening weekend and went on to gross $936.7 million worldwide.

Central Intelligence, starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, came in second with $34.5 million. It didn’t hurt that Hart bought out a number of theaters in the Los Angeles area to treat fans to free screenings.

The Conjuring 2 came in third with $15.6 million, and Now You See Me 2 came in fourth with $9.6 million. Coming in fifth was Warcraft with $6.5 million, and despite only grossing $37.7 million so far in the US, the film has made a worldwide total to date of $377 million – making it the largest grossing video game film to date.
