Eddie Redmayne Watched Every ‘Harry Potter’ Film to Prefect His Wand Skills

Eddie Redmayne had to watch all of the Harry Potter films to learn how to use a wand.

The 34-year-old actor has admitted he had “stage fright” when he picked up the magic stick for the first time whilst filming for Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them he had to watch the entire film series starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, and “stole all of the best bits” from the movie to help with his duel scenes.

Speaking on ITV’s ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (16.11.16), the dark haired hunk – who plays Newt Scamander in the fantasy film – said: “What was amazing was the first time we got to hold a wand, your inner nine year old has been waiting all your life for that moment, and I was so excited I picked the thing up and I got stage fright, and so I basically went back and watched all of the ‘Harry Potter’ films, and just stole all of the best bits from Dan [Radcliffe] and Emma [Watson] and Rupert [Grint].”

Although Redmayne has revealed he has copied how to act with a wand in his hand, he has revealed he is nervous in case the 27-year-old actor – who played the lead role as Harry Potter in the franchise – doesn’t like the new movie.

He said: “I hope he [Daniel] enjoys it.”

And Redmayne – who attended the London premiere of the film with his wife Hannah Bagshawe on Tuesday (15.11.16) – has revealed he “randomly” finds himself muttering spells under his breath, and talking to his “imaginary friends” whilst in public spaces.

He said: “Petrificus Totalus, it’s my favorite word. I just occasionally randomly find myself saying Petrificus Totalus, Petrificus Totalus, it kind of suddenly stuns you for a moment. Sometimes I was playing to nothing like Pickett, who is this little stick insect who walks on my hand, I love him he’s got attachment issues and sits in my top pocket. So occasionally I’ll go on the tube and just imagine myself talking to my imaginary friend and get weird looks. They were like ‘What is he doing? He looks like Eddie Redmayne.'”
