Marvel’s ‘Venom’ to Film in Atlanta

Marvel Studios has a Spider-Man spinoff in the works and filming is scheduled to take place in Atlanta and New York.

The spinoff, titled Venom, will be based on one of the villains (Venom) from Spider-Man 3 which is set to start filming this fall is expected to take up residency at Pinewood Atlanta Studios, where Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 shot – and Ant-Man is currently in pre-production.

While the film is not currently listed as a part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, the character is an alien in the Spider-Man comics and made his first appearance in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, attaching himself to Peter Parker before merging with his host, Eddie Brock.

Venom is expected to have an R rating and will follow into the “Action/Horror/Sci-Fi” genre. If given the green-light on rating, this will be Marvel’s third film to be released with a R rating, following 2016’s Deadpool and this year’s Logan.

Todd McFarlane, David Michelinie, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg are said to be writing the screenplay with Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach producing.
