Spielberg Leaves ‘Harvey’

Steven Spielberg has left the remake of ‘Harvey’, reportedly due to casting issues. ‘Harvey’s’ star would play Elwood P. Dowd, a man who befriends an invisible rabbit. Spielberg wanted Tom Hanks for the film, but Hanks didn’t want to tackle the role made famous by James Stewart. Spielberg then tried to get Robert Downey Jr., but they were unable to agree on the overall direction of the script, and that seems to be what led to Spielberg leaving the project. Studio Fox 2000 hopes that they can still do the feature, but Spielberg looks to be off to work on his Lincoln biopic and the thriller ‘The 39 Clues’.
