Rob Marshall Talks ‘Pirates 4’

Rob Marshall (Chicago, Nine), the new director of the next ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie (replacing Gore Verbinski), recently spoke about his participation in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’. According to Marshall, he has yet to even see the script for the film and thus had nothing to say when asked what direction he wanted to take things in, saying, “I would need a script first. It all comes from the script and the story. You serve the story and you find out what the story is and then you work from there, that’s it. It’s simple.”

Marshall added that he isn’t even 100% sure if the movie will happen, saying he, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and star Johnny Depp are still trying to “figure out if it’s going to all happen.” On this topic he said, “If it happens, I think Johnny’s doing a movie with Angelina Jolie in the spring, so if it happens, we’ll start in the summer, and we’ll see,” says the director. “I’m excited. If it happens, it happens. I’d be thrilled. I just love Johnny and I’m excited about the genre.”
