Exclusive: Godzilla Alum Joins ‘The Great Buddha Arrival’
A familiar face in the world of kaiju films has joined the cast of ‘The Great Buddha Arrival.’ FanBolt has the exclusive privilege to announce that Godzilla alumni Shelley Sweeney has been cast in the upcoming remake of the long lost kaiju flick. Sweeney’s resume includes ‘Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla ll,’ ‘Godzilla vs. Destoroyah,’ ‘Godzilla 2000,’ and my personal favorite ‘Godzilla: Final Wars.’
‘The Great Buddha Arrival’ also known as ‘Daibutsu Kaikoku (大仏廻国)’ was a fabled long-lost kaiju film from 1934. Very few images of the original exist, but the roaming stone monolith will finally returned to life thanks to what started out as a fan-funded project. Now fully funded, the wheels have started moving. The tale of a destructive deity statue is directed, co-written, and produced by Hiroto Yokokawa. The writing team also includes Yuki Yonezawa and Kazuma Yoneyama.
