Daniel Radcliffe to Star in ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’

‘Harry Potter’ star Daniel Radcliffe has the end of the franchise that made him famous looming. He’s not willing to rest on his laurels however. Radcliffe has been cast as the lead in a remake of the World War I classic ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’.

Radcliffe will play Paul Baumer, a young German soldier who is deployed to France and experiences the terrors of trench warfare. The story started as a novel written by Erich Maria Remarque in 1929 and was adapted into a film in 1930 that won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It is considered a classic of the war genre and was ranked #54 in AFI’s 1998 “100 Years… 100 Movies” list, as well as the seventh best epic film of all-time in their 2008 list.

The script for the remake is completed and Ian Stokell and Leslie Paterson will produce it through their Sliding Down Rainbows Entertainment production company. Filming isn’t expected to begin until 2012 due to Radcliffe’s finishing the ‘Harry Potter’ series and his Broadway commitments after.
