Daniel Day-Lewis Could Be Moriarty In ‘Sherlock Holmes 2’

With the last rewrites being finished up on the script, Guy Ritchie is fully focused on bringing ‘Sherlock Holmes 2’ to the big screen. With the presence of Holmes’ archenemy Professor Moriarity in the shadows of the first film it’s assumed that he will play a larger role in the second film. For a while it was believed that Brad Pitt would play the role, but rumors suggest that Ritchie wants Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) to play the role.

Should the Academy Award-winning Day-Lewis not sign on, Ritchie supposedly has several back-up choices including Sean Penn, Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman. This is all unconfirmed rumor for now, but for the moment it seems Pitt is out of the running for the role.

‘Sherlock Holmes 2’ is scheduled to start shooting soon, with a December 16, 2011 release date.
