Andy Serkis Joins ‘Rise of the Apes’

Andy Serkis has joined the cast of the ‘Rise of the Apes’, the ‘Planet of the Apes’ prequel. Serkis will play Caeser, the chimp who leads a revolt. The film will reunite Serkis with effects house Weta, as the two sides worked together on ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy as well as the 2005 ‘King Kong’.

Serkis is no stranger to voicing/playing digital characters, as he played Gollum in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy and Kong in ‘King Kong’.

Shooting starts this summer for a summer 2011 release.
