What’s Happening to Netflix’s ‘Mindhunter’?

Mindhunter

Mindhunter has been trending on Twitter all day and not for a good reason. No, the show is not getting canceled, but it is on hold indefinitely. This comes just five months after the release of the second season -which was highly rated amongst viewers and critics.

Mindhunter is a crime thriller series that follows two FBI agents and a psychologist. The three travel across the country interviewing some of the most vicious and well-known serial killers. Season 2 focused on the Atlanta Child Murders and includes Charles Manson and David Berkowitz.

The main cast in the crime series Jonathon Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Trov have all been released from their current contracts with the show. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s over for Mindhunter, though. Executive producer David Fincher is currently focusing on his first Netflix film Mank and producing the second season of Love, Death, and Robots. Netflix says that Fincher may return to Mindhunter in the future, but he doesn’t want to hold the other actors back from seeking other work while he is doing work on his own.

Will Mindhunter be back?

Holt McCallany has been actively sharing articles about the news on Twitter. Each of the articles are stating that the show isn’t cancelled, but rather in “limbo”.  McCallany isn’t the only one not wanting to let the show go. According to outside sources, the actors would all be willing to come back for a season 3.

A Netflix rep says they base the renewal of a series on viewership and if it “justifies the cost of the show”, along with other matters. Netflix isn’t fully closing the door on Mindhunter, though, considering the following its gained and Fincher’s reputation at Netflix.

So, will there be another season of Mindhunter? Right now, that’s up in there, but we are hoping for one (we need to know what happens to the BTK killer!).

What are your thoughts on this “indefinite hold” on Mindhunter? Do you think a season 3 is in the future? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. Idk if Netflix will give us a third season but I definitely WANT a third season. So do most of my true crime friends.
It’s sad that they are putting a show this good on “hold”.
Can’t someone else do it if Fincher is busy?
Who do we call to request the next season?
