‘Friends’ Reunion News! The Cast Has Signed on for a 1-Hour Special with HBO Max

We’ve got Friends reunion news!! Our favorite sitcom cast is coming back!! We’re hearing that the cast of Friends has signed on to do a reunion.

So here’s what we know. It will be an unscripted series and will be on HBO Max, HBO’s new streaming service. We don’t have a release date for the special yet, but HBO announced last October that the new streaming platform would be launching in May 2020. So fingers crossed that the Friends reunion will be happening this year!

The reunion news comes just months after the Friends cast celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the series. The show premiered in 1994 and ran until 2004. And although it’s been a while since new episodes aired, it’s just as popular as ever due to streaming. Up until New Year’s 2020, Friends was available on Netflix. HBO Max shelled out a whopping $425 million for the rights to the sitcom, which will be available on HBO Max when the service launches this May.

The Friends Reunion: Who’s In?

After much deliberation, the cast reached an agreement with both HBO and Warner Bros TV. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry are all reportedly on-board for the reunion, as well as the co-creators, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. 

The format sounds like it will be an hour-long special featuring the cast and co-creators as they reflect on the show. The deal is reportedly worth $20 million, with each member getting around $3-4 million, although no one would comment or confirm.

At the Friends 25th Anniversary panel at the Tribeca TV Festival, Marta Kauffman shut the door on any possibility for a reboot. 

“It’s not going to beat what we did.” Kauffman commented.

David Crane added, “We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it.”

On February 4th, Matthew Perry tweeted, “something big is coming…” which, of course, got us fans talking. So although we won’t be getting a reboot, we can expect to see our favorite six friends back on TV screens soon!
