Disney+ Is Bringing Back ‘The Mighty Ducks’ with Emilio Estevez and Lauren Graham

One of our favorite moments of 2019 was the day Disney+ went live. That might sound a little silly to some, but to us, it was a way to embrace all of our favorite Disney entertainment puzzle pieces at one time.

We could watch Lizzie McGuire and The Suite Life or flip over to The Mandalorian or Frozen a moment later. Our favorite shorts, episodes, and Disney films are all right at our fingertips – that includes everything from Star Wars to Marvel films and even Smart House. Yes, Smart House is on Disney +, so if you haven’t already watched it again, well… we know what you’re going to be doing after you read this.

When it comes to classic heartwarming films, no one does it quite like Disney, so when we got the news that The Mighty Ducks was going to get another breath of life, we were thrilled! And our excitement grew when we learned that Emilio Estevez and Lauren Graham will star in it! Gilmore Girls meets our favorite hockey movie? Yes, please.

In a press release from Disney+, we found out that Graham will be playing Alex and her son, Evan, will be portrayed by Brady Noon.

Lauren Graham has been cast in the lead role in the new Disney+ series “The Mighty Ducks.”  Graham will star as Alex and Brady Noon is set to portray her son, Evan.  Based on the ‘90s hit franchise, the 10-episode original series begins production this month in Vancouver and will premiere later this year on the streaming service.  Graham is also a co-executive producer on the series.
And the new about Emilio Estevez was just released today as well. Estevez commented on the news saying, “Once a Duck, always a Duck! And after 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in ‘The Mighty Ducks’ franchise.  Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney+.”
A little bit about the premise for the series was also revealed. It looks like Alex and Evan are going to build the team of all teams with a league of ‘underdogs’, and if that isn’t the kind of inspirational story we all need right now… we don’t know what is.
In present day Minnesota, the Mighty Ducks have evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.
The only bad news is that we’ll have to wait until later in the year for the series to hit Disney+, but on the bright side, that just gives us ample time to check out the ever-growing catalog on the streaming service and watch some old – and new – favorites until then.
We’ll keep you posted as news on the 10-episode series continues to be announced! Are you excited for Emilio Estevez and Lauren Graham to return to the small screen? Sound off in our comment section below!
