‘The Green Knight’ Trailer Is Here!

The Green Knight

Dev Patel has put on his suit of armor and is bringing out the sword! Early this morning, A24 dropped a teaser trailer for visionary filmmaker David Lowery’s The Green Knight.

Check out below!

What is the Green Knight?

The Green Knight is based on a 14th-century poem “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”.  Dev Patel portrays Sir Gawain, a Knight of the Round Table and King Arthur’s nephew. Sean Harris will play King Arthur, Ralph Ineson will play the Green Knight, and Joel Edgerton and Alicia Vikand will play two characters Patel meets along his journey.

In the movie, Sir Gawain begins questioning his own bravery, along with his place at the Round Table. Stating in the trailer, “I fear I’m not meant for greatness,” in which a voice replies, “We all fear, but fear can be a gift.”

Because of his uncertainty, he embarks on a quest to prove himself worthy, to not only himself but his family and kingdom. Along the epic journey, he faces the Green Knight in battle.

The trailer begins with the words “In a time where honor was everything when courage made kings,” displaying across the screen.

Slowly the camera pans in on Dev Patel sitting in a medieval-like chair and soon his head engulfs in flames. The trailer then skims through scenes following Gawain’s journey and ends with a clip of the Green Knight with a very large ax.

Although not much info is given in the trailer, we do know that the movie will debut this summer on May 29th, which is the beginning of the 2020 Summer movie series! A24 also tweeted the first movie poster and the trailer stating that it is an “epic take on the classic Arthurian legend…”

In the meantime, check out some of David Lowery’s other films like A Ghost Story, Pete’s Dragon, and The Old Man & the Gun. You can, of course, also read the poem Sir Gawain and The Green Knight.
