Google Hits Back at Claims by Hacked Female Stars’ Lawyer

The founders of Internet giant Google have hit back after a lawyer representing female stars caught up in the Hollywood hacking scandal accused them of failing to remove the leaked nude pictures from the web.

Actresses including Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Amber Heard and Kirsten Dunst were among those targeted by hackers who broke into their cloud storage accounts and stole their private pictures, and Hollywood attorney Marty Singer is now representing more than a dozen of those affected.

He wrote a legal letter to Google chiefs Larry Page and Sergey Brin accusing them of failing to do enough to purge the images from the web, and the technology moguls have now responded by insisting they have removed thousands of snaps.

A spokesperson for Google tells New York Post gossip column “Page Six”, “We’ve removed tens of thousands of pictures – within hours of the requests being made – and we have closed hundreds of accounts. The internet is used for many good things. Stealing people’s private photos is not one of them.”

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation began investigating the scandal in August after the leaked pictures first surfaced on the Internet.
