Batman: Arkham Knight Announced For PS4, PC & Xbox One(Trailer)

That’s right, Batman is back and he’s going to be next gen only. Warner Brothers Entertainment announced today the latest and apparently final entry in Rocksteady’s widely acclaimed series. It’s interesting to note that in the press release, there seems to be a distinction clearly made, with Arkham Origins not included in this series. So it seems likely we will continue to see Batman games, they will probably not be from Rocksteady. That said, there’s some juicy details on the new entry.

Arkham Knight will release in 2014 and once more feature a fully realized Gotham City. We can only imagine what they’ve done with the next gen hardware, but of note is the fact that for the first time, the Batmobile will be present and drivable in game. This likely means a much larger area to explore.

The plot will center around a familiar central villain, the Scarecrow. While he has appeared in the previous two games, he will take the central role in this outing. His levels had been some of the more interesting additions to the first two games, so it will be intriguing to see what they do with him on a much larger scale. He will also be accompanied by much of the usual rogues gallery including Two-Face, the Penguin and Harley Quinn. No other villains have been announced yet, but I’d surprised if we didn’t see the return of the Riddler and Hush.

Also announced as a pre-order bonus is the ability to play as Harley Quinn. Whether this will play like Catwoman in the previous game or if it will be specific to something like the multiplayer modes remains to be seen. It is also unclear whether this will be a purchasable addition at a later date, although that seems likely.

Of course, an announcement would not be complete without an announcement trailer. Although if you’re looking for gameplay, you’ll be disappointed. Still, it’s an impressive enough trailer, and if you’re a fan it will surely have you itching for more. Hopefully we’ll get a final release date soon.
