9/11 One Day in America
Now THIS is the 9/11 documentary that, should anyone be interested in learning about the events of that horrific day, one should watch. The way it is broken into sections is done very well, from the first episode opening with views of the skyline on what most people thought would be a normal, beautiful day, to the last episode that captures the rescue efforts of first responders trying to find survivors in the rubble of the collapsed World Trade Center towers. It takes the day and highlights different stories and events as the they unfold in each episode.
This is definitely one of the most difficult documentaries about 9/11 I have watched and I don’t recommend it for everyone. I had never seen some of the videos shown or heard the phone calls from victims in the towers which was very hard to listen to. But the thing that really got to me was scenes of the first responders in the tower and hearing these loud noises of things hitting above them. Well come to find out, that was the sound of those people who chose to jump out of the burning building hitting the ceiling above them. It was truly shocking and sent chills up my spine. It was absolutely heartbreaking to think about this. As one of the first responders interviewed stated, ‘…what a horrible decision those people had to make.’
The other positive thing about this difficult documentary is that it does not focus on anything other than the series of events. No indication or mention of hatred, political agendas, racial or cultural bias are mentioned. It shows people on America trying to make sense of horrific events but uniting together to get through it.
This is definitely a day that will always be remembered in American history.
