Michael Jackson – Off The Wall
So while I have posted mainly rock influences up to this point, my music taste is wide open and varied and this next album is one that was the beginning of my admiration and respect for the late, great Michael Jackson. The ‘Off The Wall’ album was THE album the year it was released and it gave him the chance to show his brilliance as a solo artist outside of performing with his brothers as part of The Jackson Five.
When this album came out, released in August of 1979, it was played throughout the dances and activities at my high school. The number of hits off this album was crazy and its longevity on the record charts amazing. The songs that stood out for me on this one were ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’, ‘Workin’ Day and Night’, ‘Off The Wall’, and ‘She’s Out of My Life.’ Of course we know that his work and collaboration with the brilliant Quincy Jones on this album would eventually lead to the great and biggest selling album (at that time and off and on for many years after), ‘Thriller.’ I am probably in the minority on this but while I do think ‘Thriller’ is great, I still prefer the feel and songs of the ‘Off The Wall’ album. What a music legend and someone gone way too soon!
