‘The Texas Killing Fields’ Gets Lead

According to reports, Sam Worthington will play one of the lead roles in the murder mystery film ‘The Texas Killing Fields’. Worthington will play a local homicide cop who teams up with a visiting New York detective to track down a group of killers. Donald F. Ferrarone, a former DEA operations agent, wrote the script, which is based on the true story that saw two cops trying to solve two decades of disappearances and homicides, totaling as many as 60 victims, in the industrial wastelands surrounding Gulf Coast refineries. Michael Mann is producing, and his daughter Ami Canaan Mann is directing the film.

Michael Mann had the following to say on the project. “It’s a brilliant screenplay, filled with things you cannot make up in Hollywood, things you would have had to find the dead bodies in a heroin operation to understand. That’s why it’s such a haunting piece. This is such a spooky zone in Texas where cell phones don’t work, where the homes sit on trailer stilts, and where there’s a hand-painted sign on the bridge that reads, `You Are Now Entering the Cruel World.'”
