‘Avatar’ Becomes Highest Grossing Movie Ever

History was made yesterday as ‘Avatar’ passed ‘Titanic’ to become the highest grossing movie in history. ‘Avatar’ has now grossed $1.858 billion worldwide ($554.9 million domestically, $1.303 billion overseas), topping ‘Titanic’ which had long held the #1 spot with $1.843 billion. ‘Titanic’ does still hold the all-time domestic record of $600.7 million, but ‘Avatar’ will likely top that soon, especially when considering that the movie could get another box office boost from the upcoming Academy Award nominations as well as its recent Golden Globes Best Picture award. ‘Avatar’ could end up being the first movie ever to top the $2 billion mark.
