‘In the Heights’ Cast Interview with Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, and Corey Hawkins

In The Heights

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was before the pandemic, and I was putting together a list of films that I was most excited about in 2020. In the Heights was at the very top of the list. So when I finally got to screen the movie last month, it hit me on so many different levels.

In the Heights tells the story of little dreams becoming big ones in Washington Heights. The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop. The likeable, magnetic bodega owner Usnavi saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines and sings about a better life.

Check out the first 8 minutes of the film below.

From the genius that is Lin-Manuel Miranda paired with the vision of director Jon M. Chu, this film is everything that your musical-geek loving heart has been waiting for, and in promotion for the film’s release on June 10, 2021, in theaters and on HBO Max, I had the opportunity to chat with Corey Hawkins (“Straight Outta Compton,” “BlacKkKlansman”), singer/songwriter Leslie Grace, and Melissa Barrera (TV’s “Vida”) about this freaking incredible project.

  1. Thank you Emma for a fantastic interview and sharing the 8 minute movie clip. I can smell the scent of cafecito caliente brewing in the air. As a fan, born of Latino descent my hopes for the film’s message is to embrace each other’s ethnic cultures and their added value to continue weaving together a strong social fabric. That’s the American dream! 🇺🇸 I have had the chance to meet and snap a photo with Lin-Manuel Miranda and other cast, so I can’t hardly wait to see this!
    Thanks again, Fanbolt!
