‘Captain America: New World Order’ Filming Underway in Atlanta, Georgia

Captain America: New World Order Filming

Filming is underway in Atlanta, Georgia, for the fourth movie in the Captain America franchise, Captain America: New World Order.

The Kevin Feige-produced flick started filming in late March, with one of the earliest scenes filmed on Ponce De Leon Avenue near the Plaza Theater at the Majestic Diner.

The movie is doing the majority of its filming at Trilith Studios in Fayetteville. But IMDb also lists New York City as an additional filming location.

The Storyline of Captain America: New World Order

While the plot is being kept under wraps, we do know that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier creator Malcolm Spellman has penned the script for the flick along with Dalan Musson.

Additionally, we do know a few of the plot details. The film is said to center around an international conflict concerning a newly discovered metal called Adamantium. The metal was discovered on Tiamut, the celestial from Eternals, which is now an island. Every country wants a piece of the Adamantium. And everyone also wants to claim the island as their own.

Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (played by Harrison Ford) is one of the film’s numerous villains. His character was first introduced in the Marvel comics in 1962. And he ends up leading the team of anti-heroes known as the Thunderbolts.

For Captain America: New World Order, Ross wants to claim the island (and the supply of the new metal) at all costs. The only thing standing in his way? Sam Wilson’s Captain America (played by Anthony Mackie) and the new group of heroes he’s assembling to stop him.

The film will further dive into the group’s story as they’re recruited to go on a mission for the government. Additionally, the movie will star Florence Pugh and David Harbour, and of course, Harrison Ford will appear as well.

Casting Announcements

The film has an impressive lineup of talent, including Anthony Mackie, Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson, Harrison Ford, Xosha Roquemore, and Danny Ramirez. It’s also rumored that we could see Bucky Barnes for this one as well (played by Sebastian Stan).

It was also recently announced that Liv Tyler is joining the cast to reprise her role of Betty Ross. Tyler, 45, last appeared in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, opposite of Edward Norton’s take on Bruce Banner.

Ross is the daughter of Harrison Ford’s character, General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. In The Incredible Hulk, that role was played by William Hurt, who passed away in March 2022.

Harrison Ford’s Previous Comments on Marvel

Some fans were surprised by Ford joining the cast of Captain America: New World Order and taking on the role of “Thunderbolt” Ross, at actor had previously made critical statements about Marvel’s success.

While promoting his upcoming Indiana Jones 5 flick, Jones said, “I don’t really want to give them what they wanna see, I want to give them something they didn’t anticipate seeing. The Marvel movies are a spectacular example of a success that worked the other way around – they killed it.”

Despite the harsh statements, Ford is now officially a part of the MCU.

Captain America: New World Order‘s Release Date

The next installment in the Captain America franchise is expected to premiere in theaters on May 3, 2024. And production is expected to continue on the flick until July 2023.
