‘Superman: Legacy’ Eyes February 2024 Filming in Atlanta with New Superman

Superman: Legacy Filming

James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy plans to start filming in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 1, 2024. While it’s possible that the current writers’ strike and the possible actors’ strike could impact that date, as of now, DC Entertainment has filming scheduled to begin at that time.

Superman Legacy will dive into the captivating journey of Superman as he navigates the delicate balance between his Kryptonian roots and his upbringing as Clark Kent in Smallville, Kansas. As the epitome of truth, justice, and the American way, Superman stands as a beacon of hope, guided by the enduring power of human kindness in a world that often dismisses it as outdated.

Peter Safran, the co-chairperson and CEO of DC Studios alongside James Gunn, will also serve as a producer on the project.

Who Will Be the Next Superman?

While there’s been no official announcement from DC yet, we do know that Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, and Tom Brittney have all screen-tested for the role of Clark Kent/Superman. In fact, James Gunn has already commented on how blown away he was by the auditions he conducted for the iconic part over the weekend.

“Amazing amazing weekend of auditions for Superman: Legacy,” Gunn posted on Bluesky social. “I’m blown away by some of these actors, among the best I’ve ever seen or worked with.”

Nicholas Hoult, 33, who most recently appeared in this spring’s Renfield, has no shortage of upcoming projects. One of those projects includes Clint Eastwood’s next film, which is also filming in Georgia, the thriller Juror #2.

David Corenswet, 29, most recently starred in 2022’s Pearl from A24. He’s currently filming 2024’s Twisters alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, and Kiernan Shipka.

Tom Brittney, 32, recently wrapped filming on the action comedy Back in Action. He stars alongside Cameron Diaz and Jamie Fox.

Who Will Be the Next Lois Lane?

Superman: Legacy is also auditioning for Lois Lane. It’s been confirmed that Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, and Phoebe Dynevor have screen-tested for the part.

Emma Mackey, 27, who can be seen next in Barbie, is known for her role as Emily Brontë in 2022’s Emily and Jacqueline de Bellefort in 2022’s Death on the Nile.

Perhaps most recognizable is Rachel Brosnahan, 32. Brosnahan stars as Miriam Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and also starred as Rachel Posner in House of Cards. She’s currently in pre-production on the series Lois & Varga for Amazon Prime.

Phoebe Dynevor, 28, is also a familiar face to man. She’s best known for starring as Daphne Basset in Netflix’s Bridgerton.

When Will We Know More about Superman: Legacy?

With filming set to begin in February in Atlanta and a Superman: Legacy release date planned for July 11, 2025, more details should be surfacing soon. Fans shouldn’t be surprised if an announcement on the next Superman comes out during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The timing is opportune. Either way, we’ll keep you posted on the flick and the casting announcements.
