Early Life

Before she became known as Blake Lively, she was known as Blake Ellender Brown. Lively was born on August 25, 1987, in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California. Her parents are actor Ernie Lively and talent scout Elaine Lively. She has four siblings, three of them step-siblings through her mother’s previous marriage. All her siblings have also pursued careers in the entertainment industry: Eric Lively, Robyn Lively, Lori Lively, and Jason Lively.

Lively had already been bitten by the acting bug when her parents taught acting classes which she attended. Acting was like second nature to Lively, who would appear in the 1998 film Sandman, directed by her father when she was 10 years old. During her high school years, Lively was class president, a cheerleader, and a member of the championship choir.

Career

Blake Lively’s acting career began when her brother Eric asked his agent to send her on auditions. This resulted in Lively landing a lead role in the 2005 movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The movie grossed over $42 million at the box office.

In 2006, Lively appeared in the movie Accepted, starring alongside Justin Long, which was critically panned save for her performance as Monica Moreland. In the same year, Lively also appeared in the film Simon Says, and in 2007, she starred in Annabelle and Elvis. Much like Accepted, the film was also critically panned, but her performance as Annabelle was praised.

Lively went on to reprise her role in the sequel to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2008. In 2009, Lively appeared in two films, New York, I Love You, and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. She received critical praise for her performance in the latter.

In 2010, Lively starred in The Town, directed by Ben Affleck. Lively made her foray into the superhero franchise with the 2011 DC film Green Lantern. She starred opposite Ryan Reynolds, whom she would eventually marry. The film was critically and commercially panned, making $220 million at the box office from a $200 million budget.

The following year in 2012, Lively starred in The Savages, directed by Oliver Stone. Lively also starred in the 2015 film The Age of Adaline, as a woman who stops aging after an accident. The film was a box office success, making $65 million.

She also received praise for her performance in the 2016 movie The Shallows. In the same year, Lively also starred in the Woody Allen film Cafe Society, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

Gossip Girl

One of the largest contributors to Blake Lively’s net worth is her role as the Upper East Side socialite Serena Van Der Woodsen in CW’s Gossip Girl. While having her share of hits and misses in film, Lively skyrocketed to stardom in the series, which was deemed one of the most iconic shows on television. Gossip Girl aired from 2007 to 2012.

As the show became more of a hit worldwide, so did Lively’s paycheck. From 2009 to 2010, Lively was receiving $50,000 per episode. By the end of the show’s run from 2011 to 2012, Lively was making $60,000 per episode.

Recent Work

Lively also appeared in the music video for The Lonely Island’s “I Just Had Sex” alongside Jessica Alba.

The Gossip Girl alum has also publicly expressed her interest in the culinary arts, sharing her hopes of becoming a restaurateur. Lively also has a passion for interior design.

In 2014, Lively launched Preserve, an e-commerce and digital magazine for handmade products. The website was closed down a year later, but Lively has revealed that she hopes to relaunch the platform in the future.

Lively also ventured into beverages. In 2021, she launched a line of non-alcoholic mixers called Betty Buzz.

Real Estate

Also impacting Blake Lively’s net worth are the real estate investments she and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, have made. In 2012, the couple purchased a country home outside Bedford, New York for $2.35 million. The property spans 1.8 acres and measures 4,753 square feet. They eventually sold the property in 2013 for $2.495 million.

Lively and Reynolds then purchased another property four miles away in Pound Ridge for $5.7 million. The property they bought was built in 1860, and sits on 11.60 acres. The couple was known for starting renovation work shortly after purchasing the property. It’s also a short drive from New York City.

In New York City, Lively and Reynolds reside in a condo in Tribeca. Reynolds previously purchased the condo in 433 Greenwich building. The building was originally a factory in the 18th century, built in 1882.

Personal Life

Blake Lively dated her Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley from 2007 to 2010. Lively then met actor Ryan Reynolds on the set of Green Lantern in early 2010, not long after her split from Badgley. The pair started dating in October 2011 and eventually married on September 9, 2012.

Lively and Reynolds have four children together. The couple are also known for poking fun at each other on social media.

They came under fire when it was revealed that they got married in Boone Hall in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. This is because Boone Hall was a former plantation, and a wedding at the site was criticized for being distasteful and offensive because of its history. Lively and Reynolds have since apologized.
