It’s the announcement that every Mariah Carey fan has been on edge to hear confirmation of: yes, Mariah Carey is pregnant, and the diva herself [along with hubby Nick Cannon], finally confirmed the long-time rumor this Thursday on The Today Show.
“Yes, we are pregnant, this is true,” Mariah says. “It’s been a long journey, but it’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold onto a shred of privacy, and that is not easy.” The star adds that finding out that she would soon be a mommy was “absolutely emotional, but for so many reasons.”
Carey also opens up with shocking new details about why pregnancy rumors have been flying around the tabloids more than a year and a half now. After hearing the first round of rumors, the couple took a pregnancy test which turned up positive. Sadly, one month later, Mariah suffered a miscarriage. Hubby Nick Cannon commented that while Mariah put on a brave face for the public, she would often cry herself to sleep at night. “It was really sad, so we had really to absorb this and take it in,” says Mariah.
The couple credits the miscarriage as the reason they were so reluctant to share the wonderful news with fans this time around before now. When Carey was asked how far along she is, she responds: “It’s still early. We’re expecting in the spring, let’s say that. I don’t want to give too much specific outlines.”
Congrats Mariah and Nick!
