Nick Cannon May Play Richard Pryor in New Biopic

Nick Cannon may to be set to play Richard Pryor in a new biopic. Cannon stated in an interview on Wednesday that he’s been meeting with Lee Daniels (The Butler) about the film and has been prepping to play the late comedian, including growing out his hair and taking up smoking.

Cannon did not, it is worth noting, fully say that he will be playing the role, saying that the movie was not yet in production and he didn’t want to jinx it.

People have been trying to get films about Pryor off the ground for years. Back in 2005, Sony was developing Richard Pryor: Is it Something I Said and had Marlon Wayans and Eddie Murphy close to playing the lead role at one time or another, but it fell apart.

That film was to be directed by Bill Condon. Daniels’ version has also been in the works for a while.
