Alex Kurtzman to Direct ‘The Mummy’ Reboot
Alex Kurtzman (People Like Us) is being tapped to direct the reboot of The Mummy for Universal Studios. The writer/director will helm the film as the first of Universal’s classic horror monster cinematic universe that will likely include characters like the Wolf Man, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
The film will release on April 22nd, 2016 and is set in the present. It will be more of an action-adventure film with horror elements, featuring new characters instead of updating the previous characters like Imhotep.
Kurtzman is also attached to direct Venom, Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man spin-off.
According to Deadline, execs have been trying to get the ball rolling on the reboot of the monster movie for a while, with Len Wiseman signing on to direct, then subsequently bowing out, followed by Mama writer/director Andy Muschietti, with that agreement also falling through.
Are you excited to see The Mummy, and possibly other monster movies, make their way back to theaters?
