Joan Rivers on Life Support in New York Hospital

Joan Rivers remains on life support in a New York hospital.

The veteran entertainer was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday after she stopped breathing during a routine throat procedure at a nearby clinic.

Doctors placed her in a coma and had hoped to bring her back to consciousness this weekend, but sources tell TMZ.com the 81 year old was on life support on Saturday and could remain in the same condition for several days.

Rivers’ daughter Melissa, whose family has gathered by the funny woman’s hospital bedside, released a new statement to Eonline.com on Friday, asking fans to keep her mum in their prayers.

The message read: “My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”
