‘The Conjuring 2’ Takes Top Spot at Weekend Box Office (June 10 – 12, 2016)
The Conjuring 2 debuted in the number one spot at the box office over the weekend, bringing in a total of $40.4 million.
In comparison, the film’s 2013 predecessor brought in $41.5 million during it’s opening weekend. The original film which also started Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga was considered to be a surprise hit.
Second place went to Warcraft, which received poor reviews and fell short of estimates taking in only $24.4 million. However, the film, which is directed by Duncan Jones and cost $160 million to make, did prove to be a huge hit in China where it brought in $156 million in a five day period. The current global total for the film is $286.1 million.
Coming in third was another sequel, Now You See Me: The Second Act. Like The Conjuring 2, it failed to out-perform its predecessor’s opening weekend, which was $29.3 million for the 2013 film.
Coming in fourth was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and in fifth was X-Men: Apocalypse.
