Thanksgiving morning is a special time for a number of reasons, and every family has their own special tradition. For me, it’s one that involves sleeping in an extra hour till 8:30, staying in pj’s, making cinnamon rolls and coffee, and getting cozy in front of the television with my puppy, Fozzie, and my boyfriend, Doug, for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It’s a day off from work and it’s all about spending time with the ones you love and getting into the holiday spirit.

My favorite memory of Thanksgiving morning was the year I asked out Doug. I remember watching the parade with my family that morning, and staring at my phone – considering making the plunge and telling Doug how much I liked him. That feeling of anticipation and excitement is still something I can feel in my heart when I think about it. It was shortly before Thanksgiving dinner that I did send that text – which ended up being one of the best decisions this girl ever made. And that’s just one of many reasons that this parade is so apart of my own tradition and my own life story.

I’ve even been to see it a couple of times in person in New York – which are also amazing memories! Though being a southern girl – I didn’t make it outside long before I went back in the hotel and ventured to the 5th floor to watch it from the windows so I could stay warm. It was freezing! And in my defense, it was also starting to rain.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is as synonymous with Thanksgiving as shopping is with Black Friday, and that moment when Santa Claus closes out the parade – your spirit fills with magic as you realize it is officially Christmas season. Next Thursday, November 23rd will be the 91st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and as the country gathers to celebrate both in New York City and around their television sets, the event will enthrall more than 3.5 million fans on the streets of Manhattan and more than 50 million in their homes. From giant character balloons and dazzling floats to the nation’s best marching bands, performance groups and celebrities, the parade marries tradition with joy and family and provides for memories that last a lifetime.
