‘Spider-Man’ director Sam Raimi is now set to stand at the helm for Disney’s future version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
Production is set to start next year, but the studio has hired David Lindsay-Abaire to rewrite the script. It is described as a more focused look at the world of Oz. They are still hoping to land Robert Downey Jr. for the lead role, but Downey Jr. has turned down offers for this project before.
Disney will have the Universal ‘Wicked’ musical to compete with. New Line and Warner Bros. had a similar project lined up, but it fell apart when Guillermo Del Toro declined to direct.
