Lavigne Settles Plagiarism Lawsuit

Canadian pop star AVRIL LAVIGNE has reached a settlement in a lawsuit accusing her of plagiarising her hit track GIRLFRIEND.

The 23-year-old was sued by 1970s rock band the Rubinoos, who claimed her
2007 single sounded similar to their song I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend which was released in 1979.

But the band’s lawyer, Nicholas Carlin, has now announced a settlement has been reached, although the exact financial details have not been released.

After being hit with the lawsuit, Lavigne insisted she had never heard the Rubinoos’ track, but her manager Terry McBride insisted he would rather settle the matter out of court as a way of avoiding a costly legal
battle.
