Angelina Jolie Reflects on First Starring Role: ‘I threw up. I did.’

Maleficent star Angelina Jolie may seem totally calm and confident as an actress now, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, she threw up after watching her teenage acting debut because she was so embarrassed by her appearance in low-budget sci-fi thriller Cyborg 2.

Angelina landed her first starring role in the 1993 movie as a robot assassin with the ability to feel human emotions, but the film went straight to video and Jolie felt humiliated when she saw the final product.

She tells Buzzfeed, “Oh, I threw up. I did. I saw it and I threw up. Just nausea… But I was 17 and I think I thought I was making a real movie, which is odd, since there’s a scene when I’m decapitated and talking – as one does. But, yeah, I saw it and got really sick. I just remember my brother Jamie holding me and saying, ‘It’s going to be all right.'”

Cyborg 2 was Jolie’s second film appearance – she previously appeared as a child star opposite her actor father Jon Voight in 1982’s Lookin’ to Get Out.
